Living in Five Countries: Global Perspectives
Living in five different countries outside of the US has profoundly shaped my perspective and approach. Each place has taught me invaluable lessons, but my recent 3 years in Mexico stands out as particularly impactful.
In Mexico, I’ve immersed myself in the vibrant cultures of Baja California Sur and Mexico City—two distinctly different macro cultures within the same country. This country is a tapestry of community ties, resilience, and rich history largely misunderstood by the United States.
As an anthropologist and demographer, I approach problems by immersing myself in the context, listening to stories, participating in communities, and observing behaviors while simultaneously collecting demographic data. My research method allows me to uncover insights that drive meaningful results for businesses.
For instance, in Mexico, I’ve explored issues like distrust in banking across generations and its impact on purchasing power, particularly for popular monthly subscription based business models.
My research helps companies tailor their strategies to meet local needs, fostering trust and engagement. By understanding cultural nuances, I can create solutions that are both innovative and culturally relevant.
Living in diverse environments around the world—including Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, France and multiple US regions—has honed my ability to understand and connect with diverse communities.
The benefits of this approach are significant. Companies that hire me gain a deeper understanding of their target markets, enabling them to craft strategies that truly connect with their audience. This leads to enhanced customer loyalty, better market positioning, and ultimately, business success.
